Citrus County Parks and Recreation

Citrus County has a large number of diverse and intriguing activities to partake in year round. In addition to the extensive trails, waterways for boating, and playgrounds for the kids, there are several lesser-known activities to explore.

Dragon Boat Festival
The annual Lake Hernando Dragon Boat Festival is a community competition that features dragon boats which are rowed by 11 or 21 rowers. Food and music will be available to all at the event, even if you don’t plan on taking to the water and competing yourself. Please visit their official website for more information.
Sports
For adults, men’s softball is a fun way to get to know people in your community along with co-ed softball. Open gym volleyball is available for $3 dollars per night. Volleyball, beach volleyball, men’s flag football, kickball, and basketball are also hosted. For children in the P.L.A.Y. program is a great way for kids to come out and play tee-ball.
Kid’s Activities
Citrus County provides lots of activities for kids to encourage participation and interest in their community. Annual events include the kids fishing clinic which lets young fishers learn the basics of safety, environmental stewardship, and fishing ethics. The egg-streme glow hunt offers an alternative to morning easter egg hunts that take place just before dusk. The glowing eggs guide little ones to the eggs, even as shadows start to fall. Movies in the Park provides a free movie and free popcorn, just bring your own fold out chair.
Bicentennial Pool
The Bicentennial Pool is a 225,000 gallon, junior olympic swimming pool that is even heated! Energetic swimmers will find a great way to stay in shape with exercise that has low impact on joints and bones. The pool is also handicap friendly with a wheel chair ramp and even a water wheel chair available on site. Visit the Bicentennial Pool at 8145 W. Bicentennial Park Drive, Crystal River, Fl. 34429.
