Loggerhead Marinelife Center

Loggerhead Marinelife Center
Region: Southeast

Loggerhead Marinelife Center was originally founded in 1983 as the Children’s Museum of Juno Beach formed by longtime turtle activist Eleanor Fletcher aka “The Turtle Lady”. This non-profit education and ocean conservation facility includes exhibits, educational programs, and is dedicated to protecting Sea Turtles.

Sea Turtle Rehabilitation

One of the primary focuses of the Loggerhead Marinelife Center is the rehabilitation of injured or sick sea turtles. The center has a state-of-the-art sea turtle hospital equipped with specialized facilities for medical treatment, rehabilitation, and care. Trained professionals and volunteers work to provide the best possible care for the sea turtles and help them recover before their release back into the wild.

Educational Programs

The Loggerhead Marinelife Center offers a range of educational programs and experiences aimed at raising awareness and understanding of sea turtles and marine life conservation. These programs cater to all age groups and include interactive exhibits, guided tours, summer camps, workshops, and presentations. Learn about the life cycle, behaviors, threats, and conservation efforts related to sea turtles and other marine creatures.

Research and Conservation

The Loggerhead Marinelife Center actively conducts research on sea turtles and their habitats. The center collaborates with scientists and researchers to gather data, study migration patterns, monitor nesting sites, and contribute to scientific knowledge about sea turtles. Additionally, LMC engages in conservation initiatives to protect sea turtle populations and their critical habitats.

Exhibit Hall

The Loggerhead Marinelife Center features an exhibit hall where visitors can learn about marine life, sea turtle conservation, and the work carried out by the organization. The exhibits showcase information about different sea turtle species, their nesting habits, and the threats they face in the wild. Explore interactive displays, touch tanks, and educational displays to gain a better understanding of the importance of marine conservation.

Public Beach Access

The Loggerhead Marinelife Center is located near a public beach that serves as a nesting ground for sea turtles. During nesting season (May through October), visitors have the opportunity to witness nesting sea turtles or observe hatchlings making their way to the ocean. The center plays a vital role in monitoring and protecting these nesting sites, ensuring the safety of the turtles and their nests.

Sustainable Practices

The Loggerhead Marinelife Center is committed to promoting sustainable practices and raising awareness about reducing environmental impacts on marine life. The center advocates for responsible fishing practices, reducing plastic pollution, and creating a more sustainable future for sea turtles and their habitats.

The mission of the the Loggerhead Marinelife Center is to promote conservation of ocean ecosystems with a special focus on threatened and endangered sea turtles. The facility houses a variety of exhibits, live sea turtles and other coastal creatures. Exhibits include a massive prehistoric Archelon sea turtle replica, salt water aquaria and displays of local wildlife, as well as educational displays about South Florida’s marine environment.
